It wasn’t surprising that the Dolphins surprised everyone by selecting the Texas A&M QB, Ryan Tannehill. If there was an award for biggest reach of the draft, the Dolphins would win, and I don’t even need to see the rest of the draft, or even the first round to make that statement. Tannehill is a talented player, and the Dolphins will have the best QB they have had in years, which isn’t saying much, but not many of the experts see Tannehill as a franchise QB.
Additionally, Tannehill will struggle to find his go to receiver, with no big name skill players on the Dolphins offense, Tannehill, if he plays over Matt Moore, will have to do a lot of the work himself and nothing will be easy for him. QB was a position of need, but we are not sold on Tannehill being the answer to the woes the Dolphins have had at QB since Dan Marino retired.
Despite the Dolphins confidence that they are one of the numerous teams who stand a chance at getting Manning, they have joined the Cleveland Browns in exchanging contract offers with free agent quarter back Matt Flynn. The Dolphins seem to have good bargaining chips on their end since trading Brandon Marshall creates a $5.8 million salary cap space and they currently have a $15 million purse at their disposure in the offseason without having to cut players or consider contract restructuring.
One thing the Dolphins can clearly say they will avoid this upcoming season is trouble; at least from Marshall who has been attracting trouble and run-ins with the law since his college years. The latest issue is one that has some Chicago fans “crying buyer beware” even though it is too late to renege on the deal.
The Bears General Manager claimed in a statement that both his team and the Dolphins knew about the incident but decided to proceed with the trade. They only did what they had to do in acquiring the receiver. This is a chance that the team had to take in order to fill a critical spot on their team and reunite Marshall with Jay Cutler with whom he set a number Broncos and NFL records. Either that or settle Vincent Jackson who only needs one more DUI arrest to earn a suspension for the season. A look back at Marshall’s troubled history shows a rap sheet that is nothing to write home about. He has had a history of violence against women, a few domestic issues allegedly involving weapons, and even experienced the murder of the Broncos’ Darrent Williams in 2007 when a man who had an altercation with Marshall’s cousin fatally shot him in the neck. He has been charged with DUIs and driving the wrong way on a one-way street after a game and has numerous other incidents of altercations with the public.
Marshall seems to always find a place with people willing to take chances with him but how long will this history of run-ins with the law continue. Hopefully this is one gamble that will pay off for the bears but I say don’t hold your breath of you’re a bears fan because with Marshall comes risks and liabilities. Only time will tell if “the beast” will ever be tamed.
Just moments before free agency started, the Miami Dolphins shocked everyone by sending their leading receiver of the past two seasons, Brandon Marshall, to the Chicago Bears in exchange for two third round draft picks. The exact picks haven’t been disclosed yet, but we can assume that the picks are this years and next years. Brandon Marshall had long been considered as one of the key selling points in the Miami Dolphins attempts to persuade Peyton Manning to sign with them and be their quarterback for the next few seasons. This trade can lead one to believe that the Dolphins have been told, or decided on their own, that they will not be signing Peyton Manning this offseason.
This trade leaves the Miami Dolphins with a hole to fill at the receiver position, so look for them to either look into one of the many Free Agent receivers, or to use one of their early picks on a receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Dolphins Can’t Hang on Vs Giants
The Dolphins played one of their better if not best games of the season Sunday vs. the Giants. They had the NY Giants and their fans scarred for most of this game. But the dolphins could not close this one out and are still winless on the season.
The Fins are now 0-7. You have to wonder how many more losses it’s going to take for the Dolphins to fire Sparano. It’s not looking good. Before this game reports were that he was not in immediate trouble.
Eli Manning had another solid game. He has been having a good season for the Giants. Eli had 2 TDs and almost 350 yards in the 20-17 win. The Giants D was also too much for the Fins late in this game.
This is looking more and more likely to be one of those seasons when the Dolphins players rush the field in celebration as if they just won a Super Bowl, but instead it will be to celebrate the fact that they avoided a winless season. The Dolphins are just a terrible football team, and blew what may be a rare opportunity this season to get a victory. In the game, Daniel Thomas had a tough time getting anything going, being held to 53 yards. However, Matt Moore completed 66% of his passes for nearly 20 yards and touchdown with no interceptions, but did turn the ball over on one of his two fumbles. For being sacked four times, and getting pressured nearly every play, we have to at least tip our hat to Dolphins QB Matt Moore for putting up a respective performance.
Not much more can be said, all we can do is reflect on the loss and hope for a better day tomorrow. Next week the Miami Dolphins play the New York Giants in New York. Keep up to date with this Miami Dolphins blog for all the Dolphins news needed to stay informed during the 2011 season.
Jets End Losing Streak as the Dolphin’s Continue
The New York Jets 3 game losing streak came to an end Monday night at the meadowlands. Unfortunately for the Miami Dolphins their 5 game losing streak continued. The Fins are now 0-5 on the season. With the 24-6 win the Jets are now 3-3.
The Jets really needed this game to stay alive in the tough AFC east. Not only are they battling the Pats as they do most years but the Bills have got off to a surprisingly good start. So even though it might be early this really was a must win game for the Jets. But it was a game against a wingless team that had nothing to lose so they could not take their opponent lightly.
The Dolphins actually controlled this game early and were about to take a 10-0 lead until Darrelle Revis had a 100 yard pic 6. This was Revis first of 2 pics he would have in this game. He once again was the best player on the field. Marshall did have some catches against Revis though because the Fins went at Revis all night. Revis won the battle though and as a result the Jets won this game big.
The Jets now look to get back on track and stay competitive as they will take on the charges at home next week. The Dolphins are still looking for their first win.
Just letting everyone know I am a diehard Jets Fan. I go to most home games every season and even some away games. Enjoy a different take and perspective on your team.
